Suffering Love: A Resurrection Week Devotional
Introduction
Welcome to the Passion Week of Christ. Passion, in Latin, means “to suffer” or “to endure.” This week, we witness God suffering and enduring the wrath of humanity, proving He is self-sacrificing Love. The focus, expression, and command of Jesus in these final chapters is Love. He was betrayed, yet He loved. He was arrested, falsely accused, and punished, yet He loved. He was executed as a criminal, yet He loved. Not even death could quench His love for the Father—and for us.
This devotional is a meditation guide to help you encounter the self-sacrificial God through the details of Jesus’ final days on earth. As you read and take notice, allow yourself to connect with the Father, Jesus, and the Spirit. Picture yourself in the scene—what role might you have played? What if you didn’t already know the story? What about this man, Jesus, stirs your soul?
How does the Father’s presence and character—as a suffering God—impact your beliefs and your life? Through Jesus, God revealed that darkness and suffering are not the full story. Be encouraged as you walk into new seasons and opportunities: God’s Love, embodied by Jesus, dwells in you. Jesus showed us that His relationship with God was the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Through His example, we are made new—able to live every day trusting God and empowered by His Spirit.
In joy and in sorrow, in loss and in hope, He is with us—listening, suffering, and redeeming. We will feast on His goodness and walk in wholeness. He is the Light that has overcome the darkness.
